Killing for Nothing

Short Prose Send feedback »

Since the very first appearance of human beings on earth, there have been many wars. Why do people try to kill one another? Why all this hatred? What aim is there in annihilating another culture? I am sure many staunch soldiers have carried this question in their hearts while they were engaging their enemies. When not in war, all people would probably give the same answer to the question whether there should be war or not. “No”. However, in my opinion, in the depths of their mind they carry the idea of violence. Humans are categorized as social animals according to the science of sociology. The features we have such as intelligence, ability to think, etc. suppress a covert part of us, the animal side of us. We believe it is bad to shoot and kill somebody, but it must be this secret part that drives us to the extremes of eliminating another human being. When in war this secret part reveals itself, it comes to surface from the depths of our conscience. And we kill. Animals kill for food. We kill for saving our country, capturing resources such as oil and gold, bringing democracy. We kill for nothing but to satisfy our craving for violence.

Rainy Day

Essays 4 feedbacks »

It is raining. It has been raining for seven days now, and I do not seem to get enough of it. I love rainy days. Looking out of the window, I can almost feel the drops splash against buildings, trees, streets and cars. People are in a rush trying to avoid the drops, but they always find their way and wet their clothes. Any resistance is futile. The rain rules. Like pearls, the raindrops scatter on the ground to gather again in the unity of little streams that disappear in the pandemonium of sewage canals under our city. It is quite chilly outside, and our otherwise thriving city seems somewhat deserted.

AN AMAZING WOMAN

THE LADY AND THE WIFE

“Come my friend. Why are you alone? What a dilemma you are in? What are you thinking about? You look tired and sad. Come and join us. Let’s enjoy our time,” I said.
“You are my best friend and I think you understand me more than I myself do. I can not keep anything secret from you,” he replied. “I was thinking of that poor lady and her strange family,” he continued.
“Which lady do you mean?” I asked.
“Halah,” he replied.
“What happened to her?” I asked.
“Her husband died two years ago if you remember,” he said.
