The Peace Package

Peace Package

If you could give the world a token of your friendship, what would it be?

This seems like a simple question, doesn't it? How often do most of us think about the world around us, though? I know when I was in high school my idea of the world was the map on the wall in the history classroom and it meant very little to me, except that I might like to vacation in Greece, Germany, or Asia one day. I thought very little about what was in between the tourist spots on the map; it was no more than a collection of interesting cities to me. Since high school I have travelled to a few of the places in between those cities, and it's nothing like I expected it would be. Seeing the cities on the map was strangely different from meeting the people in and around those cities.

So, what is the peace package about, exactly? It's about people. It's an attempt to realize that China is not just a mass on a map, but rather it is over one billion people living their lives the best they can; or that Egypt isn't just where the pyramids are, but a sometimes harsh place where man meets desert. Most of all, it's about friendship.

The Peace Package is a collection of ideas, photographs and artifacts that tell or show what students from around the world would give as a token of their friendship. We welcome everyone to add their thoughts to this wiki. We also encourage you to use the idea of the Peace Package in your classrooms, as a group project for your students, or as an individual task.
